The elusiveness of the “promised land” that concepts New Gum San and a Land of Milk & Honey speak to is something we feel in our lives today. What is this promised land that we all are striving for, and why is it so hard to attain? "movin” follows Tyrun and Chi on a seemingly wild-goose chase for the new highly sought-after yet strangely elusive drink Niu Gold Mountain. Only after working together to track the bottle down in Lim Chhour and giving it a stern "talking to" (aka Wushu-ing some sense into it) do we see these two succeed.
The supermarket is a place that everyone goes to - an everyday activity. Our goal for this piece was to visualize the fun, bounce, dance, colour, and joy of the music within the mundanity of grocery shopping. Set in Lim Chhour, an Asian supermarket, we wanted to reinvigorate this space, given it’s importance to our migrant communities. It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to film inside a supermarket - especially one that is as historically significant as THE Lim Chhour on Karangahape Road. A celebration of togetherness, community and us migrants coming together to create our own version of Niu Gold Mountain.
