As part of Auckland Councils Pride Month 2024 programme, we are highlighting an exciting, emerging Asia-Pacific led arts collective, based in Tāmaki Makaurau. We acknowledge Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as mana whenua and kaitiaki of Waitematā.

All My Friends (AMF), kaupapa centres around connecting communities through creativity, with a focus on platforming LGBTQIA+ BIPOC MVPFAFF+* creatives.  Fostering visibility, meaningful conversations and new connections are some of the underpinnings of their kaupapa. The four members of AMF bring together their lived experiences, skills from various industries (music, fine arts, finance, marketing, and hospitality) and cultural heritage (Chinese, Filipino, Niuean, Samoan), when creating events/art projects, providing a rich, layered experience for audience members and participants alike.

This showcase of artworks, which spans across several public spaces around the Waitematā Local Board area, are a mix of retrospective and newly commissioned pieces.

'NIU GOLD MOUNTAIN'

Betty Wark Room, 2 Freyberg Place, Auckland CBD

The Migrant Diaspora is often defined by the narrative
of the search for a better life, an experience shared by Asian and Pasifika immigrants to Aotearoa. Niu Gold Mountain is a collection of collaborative video works that brings these histories together through over 20 different creatives.

Chinese immigrants sought their "New Gum San" in the gold mines, and Pasifika immigrants searched for their "Land of Milk & Honey”.  All My Friends explores these concepts in the present day. What are the aspirations
of this generation's Asian and Pasifika artists?

What do they see as their Niu Gold Mountain?

'REINA'

227 Queen Street, Auckland CBD

This artwork celebrates the arrival of spring, capturing the fleeting emotions of happiness and renewal. With a vibrant color-field background and blooming flowers,
it reflects themes of community and connection.

The colors and motifs pay tribute to a beloved local artist who understood the power of shared joy. We invite viewers to connect and celebrate the ephemeral beauty of the season.
