Moving countries usually comes with the promise of opportunity. But this promise is tainted by prejudice, oppression, capitalism and colonialism. These forces govern the way you are allowed to move in society, and sometimes it’s hard to decouple how you perceive yourself from how they do; as a cog, as a worker, as an immigrant, as a second class citizen, as a queer person not deserving of respect.
The eyes of the people around you and the powers that be, become a part of you. It can feel like you are being watched at all times, even by people in your community. They perpetuate your oppression because they have not cut the eyes of the powers that be out from within their own body. But you must also cut into yourself, so that you don’t perpetuate their oppression.
This film is about self actualisation and social liberation. Just as I am able to create a new body as a trans person, we can create a whole new world in the shell of the old - (Auto Angel)
